A Mystery Girl in the Life of the Mac-Attack

September turned into October, and then October turned into November, one of my favorite months.

Think about it: It's the month of Thanksgiving, and that's the BEST holiday!

However, Thanksgiving wasn't until the third Thursday of the month, but today's story begins on the first Thursday of the month: November 6, 2008.

It wasn't really Thursday that was significant, but it was the day before what would become a weekend I would never forget. A little preview of what's to come:

The Deer Valley High Immigrants (lame mascot, I know) had made it to the Arizona State Championship Playoffs. Ben and I were pumped up to go to the game tomorrow.

There was going to be a USY Dance on Saturday night.

These two will somehow intertwine as my story progresses.

But back to Thursday:

After lunch, Ben and I walked to American History. History is both of our favorite subject, so it's pretty ballerstatus to be in the same class.

Our teacher, Mr. Barnett (an old Jewish man), was giving a lecture on the battle at Valley Forge when this beautiful brunette with the most beautiful smile I've ever seen walked into the room; she must have been an office aide because she handed Mr. Barnett a pinkslip and then walked out.

Suddenly, for the first time ever, I couldn't focus on American History. All I could think about was the mysterious brunette and her incredible smile.

FRIDAY:

I still couldn't stop thinking about the goddess with a pinkslip. The way she carried herself as she walked into the room, as if she was quite proud to be an office aide and...

"MAC!"

I was somehow pulled out of my daydream when my best friend shouted my name.

"Mac, it's time for the pep rally. We gotta hustle if we want good seats!"

"Let's do it." I said, obviously trying to stay cool and not distracted. I had only one mission tonight, and that was to cheer on the Deer Valley Immigrants (once, again, still a lame mascot) onto victory in the first round of the playoffs against our rivals: The Desert View High School Fighting Bulldogs.

Before I knew it, the game was underway. I was trying so hard to show my Immigrant pride, but all I could think about was the beautiful office aide. I couldn't remember the last time I was hung up on a girl who I had never met before (unless you count that time where I fell in love with Jamie Lynn Spears, until she got knocked up. That bitch!)

Then I heard the sound of "TOUCHDOWN IMMIGRANTS!!!" followed by the sound of many cheering classmates of mine. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I happened to see one particular fan. It was the girl from Thursday!

I can't stress how much I wanted to get up and talk to her, but Ben wouldn't have ever let me hear the end of it. I remember one such time where I couldn't go see a movie with him because I went to go see the movie with Carrie Wilcox.

"I'm being jacked for a girl?"
"Technically, Ben, it's ME who's going to be getting jacked tonight!" (Good times with Carrie Wilcox)

So I stayed where I was, cheered for the rest of the game, and then I went home. After Ben dropped me off at my house, I began to think of the mysterious girl again. I found myself asking a million questions about her to myself:

What was her name?
Where was she from?
What are her hobbies?
Was she single? (well, actually, looking into my past, the whole single-taken thing has never been an issue. Once again, good times with Carrie Wilcox)

SATURDAY:

It was the night of the monthly WC USY Midbar Dance (midbar=Desert in Hebrew. Yay Jews!)

I was ready to meet some hot Jewish girls and to NOT think about the girl from school.

Melinda picked me up around 6:00. The dance would be in Tempe, which is roughly a half-hour away. The dance was at 6:30, so we would be right on time.

The way the dance was set up was cool, and I saw a few of my people. For example, Brian Berg (aka B) was one of my biggest followers (literally AND figuratively). I was greeted by him with the usual: "MY MAN MAC-ATTACK"

Also there was Aaron Youngston, my good friend from TBZ who moved here from Boston the year before.

Ben was there, several other familiar people were there...and then I saw another familiar face.

Quite suddenly, I heard from one of the girls that was there: "Dara! I'm so glad you came!!!"

Dara. Her name was Dara. What a beautiful name!

I heard the goddess that was Dara speak: "I'm so glad I'm joining USY. It's going to be so much fun."

I grabbed Ben.

"It's the girl, Ben."

"That's nice, Mac...what girl?"

"The one who delivered the pinkslip in Barnett's class on Thursday."

"Oh...what?"

I pointed his head in her direction.

"Well, that's very nice, Mac-Attack. You're gonna ditch me for her, aren't you?"

I paused for a second.

"She has a friend, Ben! Be my wingman!"

"Oh, yeah. Duh."

But just as soon as we started toward her, her face suddenly attached itself to that of some tall guy whom I had never met before. Something told me he wasn't the right guy for her, but something else told me that I should probably stay away so that I don't get my butt kicked.

As Ben and I stood there, I wasn't really sure what to do. I guess you can say it was one of those moments where my perception of reality was completely altered...

Yeah, right. As if that's possible!

Sincerely,
Mac-Attack
